Journaling & memory keeping

Mental: Mood Tracker & Journal

Log feelings and notes, then optionally use AI tags, editable journal memories, daily wrap-ups and Ask Mental to revisit the context behind them.

Our take

Reflecting on the context around mood entries

Consider Mental when you want to inspect and correct what an AI journal remembers. Free check-ins remain useful; Ask Mental and Memory belong to Pro and require online processing of relevant journal content.

Keep in mind: No device, model-quality or deletion-behavior test was performed.

What you can do

  • Record a feeling on an emotion grid with optional text, dictation and tags
  • Inspect a saved memory’s source check-in and edit or forget it
  • Ask Mental about a situation using selected relevant journal context
  • Review daily wrap-ups and optionally compare a mood prediction with a later check-in

Good for

  • Reflecting on the context around mood entries
  • Reviewing and correcting AI-generated journal memory

Consider alternatives for

  • An entirely offline AI assistant
  • Medical advice, diagnosis or guaranteed factual interpretations

Correct the journal’s interpretation

The developer guide separates proposed tags from approved tags and links memories back to their source. Open a memory before relying on it, adjust its wording or ask the app to forget it. The code examples explain the publisher’s approach; we did not independently audit the implementation.

Limitations & considerations

  • No device, model-quality or deletion-behavior test was performed.
  • The technical guide describes intended checks, not proof that AI output is always accurate.
  • This profile scopes the iPhone workflow rather than implying a native Mac edition.

Privacy & permissions

The policy describes device storage and private iCloud sync; Ask Mental conversations stay on the device without iCloud sync. Optional AI requests send relevant content through a Cloudflare relay to DeepInfra after permission.

App usage analytics through PostHog are on by default and can be disabled. Health context and Apple-server voice transcription have separate choices; “private journal” does not mean no online services.
