TestFlight

Apple’s beta-testing app for installing invited test builds and sending developers feedback.

Our take

Use it when a developer has invited you to test

Email and public-link invitations give a direct route to pre-release apps and App Clips.

Keep in mind: Beta builds can be unstable and are distinct from finished App Store releases.

What you can do

  • Install invited beta apps.
  • Test pre-release App Clips.
  • Submit feedback and crash information.

Good for

  • People helping a developer test a specific beta.

Consider alternatives for

  • Anyone expecting unrestricted access to every unreleased app.

Limitations & considerations

  • Captured minimum: iOS 16.0.
  • An invitation and an available compatible test build are required.
  • Keep important work backed up before relying on beta software.

Privacy & permissions

Apple explicitly collects crash logs, usage information and submitted feedback and shares relevant material with the developer; Apple may also use crash/usage data to improve its services.
