PDF Extractor vs PDF Expert, iLovePDF and Acrobat for PDF to Word

Compare purchase models, local versus web workflows and what each route is for—without pretending documented features prove conversion quality.

The short answer

Start with PDF Extractor for focused document recovery without a subscription. Consider PDF Expert when you also want an Apple-focused PDF editor, iLovePDF for a wider utility toolkit, and Acrobat when an existing Adobe workflow already meets the job. None is declared the most accurate converter here.

Side by side

Product / routeAccess & price snapshotWorkflow distinctionBest fit / watch out
PDF Extractor 1.02 First 3 pages to try; one-time full-access purchase, no subscription. Confirm local purchase amount. Provider describes local conversion on Mac, iPhone and iPad; Word plus text-oriented formats. Focused content reuse. Reflow is not proven page-layout preservation.
PDF Expert Web annual plan $79.99 for Mac/iPhone/iPad; $139.99 lifetime offer is Mac-only. Conversion within a broader Apple PDF editor. Frequent editing as well as export. Do not mistake the Mac lifetime offer for an all-device license.
iLovePDF Basic limited; Premium $60/year in the reviewed web view. Web, mobile and desktop products; web Word OCR requires Premium; desktop is described as local. Several PDF utilities in one service. Confirm the exact tool, platform and entitlement rather than treating all routes as identical.
Adobe Acrobat Mobile export requires a subscription; online converter is a separate route. Check the exact plan. Choose among mobile, desktop and web rather than assuming Reader’s free download covers export. Existing Adobe workflows. Avoid a duplicate subscription if your current plan already includes the required export.

Make the first decision about your file, not the logo

For a private document, identify whether the exact conversion route processes it on-device or uploads it. A local desktop product and a browser tool from the same company can have different handling. PDF Extractor describes local processing; iLovePDF separately describes a local desktop route. Neither statement is an independent privacy audit.

For a scanned document, check OCR access. A converter accepting a PDF does not establish that it can turn photographed text into editable words under your chosen plan. iLovePDF’s web interface makes that distinction explicit.

Choose a focused converter or a broader editor

If all you need is an editable draft, begin with a small conversion and assess the cleanup burden. A suite’s longer feature list does not establish better output for that particular file.

PDF Expert becomes a more relevant alternative when annotation and editing are ongoing work, not incidental extras. Acrobat may make sense when documents already pass through an Adobe workflow. Paying for more tools is useful only if those tools are part of your actual work.

Compare the saved Word files, not just previews

Use the same non-sensitive PDF, page range and target editor. Compare reading order, table structure, image placement, accented characters and the time needed to repair the document. A visually attractive preview is not enough if the saved file is difficult to edit.

For scans, check a few names, dates and numbers against the original. For columns, read across the resulting paragraphs to catch mixed reading order. For tables, determine whether cells are editable or merely pictures. These are evaluation checks, not results we claim to have measured.

When extra testing would change the decision

A claim such as “all converters preserve complex tables equally” would need direct evidence. If layout fidelity is the deciding factor, a focused test of the same challenging files is more useful than another broad feature checklist.

Our earlier PDF Extractor versus iLovePDF image-extraction comparison answers a different question. It must not be used as a Word-conversion scorecard or a verdict on version 1.02.

Limitations & considerations

  • This coverage follows the version 1.02 listing, not a hands-on conversion benchmark. Earlier image-extraction observations do not establish this version’s Word or OCR quality.
  • Editable output is not a promise of identical pagination, tables, fonts or reading order. Proofread important text and retain the source PDF.
  • Mac support is stated in the current description. Check device-specific system requirements; this article does not establish Intel support, cross-device purchase restoration or automatic file sync.
  • Prices above are dated web-plan snapshots, not universal in-app prices. Taxes, regional offers, renewals and platform entitlements can differ. No third-party review of PDF Extractor 1.02’s conversion quality is claimed.

Documented features, attributed opinions and explicitly labeled hands-on observations are different kinds of evidence. We do not infer unmeasured performance or privacy guarantees.
